Do you want to know how to create your own “vintage” trophy?
If you are a vintage lover, junker or collector you probably have, or wish you had, a vintage trophy or two.
Vintage trophies are getting harder and harder to find.
I have found two “in the wild”. That is what I like to call it when you are out just junk hunting and you spy one. When I found mine I jumped for joy {on the inside.}
For those of you that have never found one and refuse to pay the expensive cost to buy one,
This DIY is for you!
We can easily create the look of a vintage trophy with a few simple steps.
What a great score it was when I found a basic metal trophy at a thrift store, and it was only paid $4.25. The moment I saw it I grabbed it off the shelf. I knew this cutie could be AMAZING with a little TLC.

You can see it is SO shiny! And we all know vintage trophies are NOT shiny,

I started by sanding the entire thing with 150 grit sandpaper. The key to sanding is to scuff up the original finish, but don’t make the marks too deep.

Vintage trophies have this amazing dark patina. To get that look I started with a dark gray, almost black paint.
Using a foam brush was the easiest way to apply the paint and get the random look. Random is key, because come on true vintage look is random.
After I covered it I took a damp cloth and begin wiping and rubbing the paint in. I had no real plan, just keep it layered to create a worn look.

There is no right or wrong here. Just play around with the paint. You can always wipe it off or add more.

Once I was happy with the look, I used a matte spray sealant to protect the paint, but also to give the entire trophy a matte look. I think it just helps add to the vintage look.
I am pretty happy with the finished product. I added it to the shelf with my two vintage ones and I think they are all just perfect together.
